Ornament Thursday-Get Lucky!

Imgp1652_2

It's that time again~Ornament Thursday is here.  This month's project was inspired by some little four leaf clover and plastic disc charms I found in Hong Kong.  Lucky is the theme.  Luck.  Get Lucky.  Lucky Charms.  Good Luck.  Just My Luck.  Bad Luck.  Luck Be A Lady. Wish Me Luck.  ...For Good Luck (i.e. a Rabbit's Foot).  Lucky Duck.  Did I miss one?  Leave a comment.  I've always thought of myself as lucky.  I know studies have been done on people who think they're lucky vs. not.  Who knows?!?  I'm also superstitious.

Imgp1671_3

I took a crafty break today and whipped up these earrings.  Yes, I said a crafty break from crafting.  I decoupaged the top layer of the printed napkin to the back with Mod Podge.  Wahhooooo!  I loved the texture that came through.  Lucky I found that cool napkin in my paper stash!

I recommend renting Darby O'Gill and the Little People to watch while you make your earrings.  Although, I warn you that song they sing will be in your head for the rest of your life.

To celebrate St. Patty's I propose we do a Lucky Charms give-away.  Ok?  Good.  Leave a comment by Monday, March 3rd @ Noon EST.  Here's the charms you'll win...BE Lucky!

Home Alone...

Imgp1647

Home alone working today and I had to stop and laugh at myself...  I needed to do some drilling and as of late, I've not been wearing my safety glasses.  Do I think I'm invisible to shards of plastic and metal flying at my eyes?  Or maybe I've just been living here too long where saftey quite possibly comes "last."  So today when I picked up my drill tool, the thought "you'll shoot your eye out" popped right into my head.  I put the tool down and reached for the safety glasses, only I had no idea where they were.  I know!  My new "Arsenal" sunglasses will work (ask me if I even knew that designer name before moving here).  They worked like a charm, so good that I forgot to take them off until an hour later!  That's when I took the picture.  Poor thing can't help herself.

Soup Sunday and Links...

Imgp1351_2

Tomato Bisque pre-CHA (note beads and bits laying all over my coffee table)

Imgp1605

Tomato Bisque Post-CHA (clean coffee table)

I sort of fused these two recipes:  here and here.  Then, I did a hit and run with about 1 1/2 cups of cooked elbow macaroni which may sound strange, but most of the time the soup is The Meal so I try to make it as "meaty" as possible.  And don't forget the culinary cream on top!

Meet my Grandpa ...

I had the treat of spending one afternoon with my gram and grandpa while I was home.  Every year we used to bake cookies for Valentine's Day until I left and then grandma ran the operation solo.  This year we picked up where we left off.  Spin Dr. Grandpa played DJ with his old records while Gram and I whipped up the dough in the kitchen.  We had so much fun--lots of giggling and taste testing and me getting side-tracked taking pictures and talking on the phone.  I have another video I may put up later, but for now I thought this was pretty sweet.

Dove Earrings for Doveen...

I made these earrings for my friend, Doveen right before I left for CHA.

Imgp1421

Doveen owns Dove of the East, a fabulous scrapbooking company that has papers and embellishments inspired by her world travels.  And guess what she just launched at CHA?  Rubber stamps!  The images are really beautiful and I can't wait to use my sets.  Shrinky dink charms anyone?

Imgp1435

I have a bunch of these dove components so I'm going to share the dove-love.  Leave a comment by Tuesday at Noon EST to be entered in a drawing to win a pair of the dove charm findings.     Watch this space Wednesday or Thursday to see if you won.  Have a super weekend-good luck!

Snowdog...

I made my Dad drive around the block twice so I could get a picture of this...

Imgp1437

A ginormous poodle made of snow.  Do you love it?!?!  I'd have to say the tennis ball and the tail are my favorite parts.  Thank you to everyone who still take time to make snowmen and such.  I love seeing them in your yards---so friendly and warm even though it's icy cold outside.

Thought you might enjoy this...

free music

A long time ago, Cynthia talked about Deezer.com on her blog.  It was perfect timing because I think it was right around the time I had lost my internet radio because of copyright stuff and where I live.  Neato.   This band is a fav I found there---I especially like Writer's Block.  If you like Lily Allen, you may enjoy Just Jack. And thanks Cynthia and Norm for finding the station...

Home Sweet Home...

Imgp1516

It seemed like a brilliant idea to sit in front of the movie screen on the plane ride home.  A little bit of leg room, full screen view---makes sense.  Although, that was when I was booking my tickets while sitting on my couch.  Little did I know my legs couldn't stretch all the way out in front of me.  I also thought the flight home would be around 11 hours. Nope, the captain came on the speaker and said, "our total flight time today will be 14 hours and 52 minutes."  I turned to the girl next to me and said, "what did he just say?!?"  I love direct flights, but eeesh, that was a long time!  I'm pretty sure I was seeing mirages of Lazy Boy chairs and my very own Starbucks barista.  Thank the Lord for all the free magazines I picked up at CHA!

The trip was all worth it start to finish.  I got to catch up with everyone and meet so many new and exciting people.  I came home to a lovely bouquet of flowers---thank you Butchy.

Imgp1523

And a very relieved pup---he's never thrilled when the pack splits up.

Imgp1546

This dog makes our hearts melt.  I can hear all your gagging noises, but I don't care!  When I got home, Rocker was scampering and hopping about (doing the happy dance, as we say).  I even got a few yelps of joy.  I set my suitcase down and then my purse and turned around to find Rocker perched on top of my suitcase-tail wagging looking straight up at me.  I could go on, but it's time to make the donuts....

Another Heartsy Idea...

Imgp7835

Here's a bracelet I made about a year and a half ago...  I will always love old scrabble tiles---who won't right?  I drilled these from end to end vs. right through the top.  It's a little tricky because you have to drill both ends, hoping the holes line up (or use a ruler for insurance).  The beads and charms were collected from broken jewelry and necklaces.  The silver chain bracelet I believe was some sort of extender so I took the beady end of an old necklace and made it part of the closure.

I'm hanging out in the Plaid booth at CHA this week making jewelry.  Stop by and say hey if you're in the neighborhood!

And the winner is...

Lori Borntreger!  Congratulations you won the ring kit!  Please send me your address so I can send your ring!  candie(At)candiecooper(dOt)com

Thanks everyone for your comments!  I made it home safe and sound yesterday after about 20 hours of travel time.  Lord.  The flight was 13 1/2 hours and went surprisingly fast.  I always forget how hard the first day of jet-lag is though.  China is 13 hours ahead of Indiana so that always makes things interesting.  It's very cold and snowy here today so I didn't go out.  Instead I watched a lot of the QVC Paper fair and DIY channel.  That was fun.  I flipped through my parents channel options-all 9 gazillion of them.  It was the first time I actually felt like a foreigner in my own country.  It's always the choices that make me feel like that.  So many options for so many things from dish soap to cheese.  It's kind of dizzying, but it makes me love our country all the more.  Now what's up with all these energy drinks?!?!

Hello Again...
